Jay Sterrenberg //Member Services Associate (212) 966-4510 ext. 232 Jay Sterrenberg is a Canadian born idealist and a fan of community media. He is a founding member of the Meerkatmedia Arts Collective, a collection of media makers and artists dedicated to a non-hierarchical and inclusive creative process. Their goal is to make a kind of consensus art that inspires, motivates and enables others to tell their own stories. The collective's production, "How Wal-Mart Came to Haslett" - a Political Short, won the sixth annual Media That Matters Film Festival Changemaker Award. Jay is working on his (untitled) first feature documentary. The project is a self-reflexive film about his experience as a young idealist traveling and filming in Bolivia, the poorest country in South America during an ongoing life-or-death struggle for the future of their natural gas resources. He holds a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College where he read a lot of books and made a number of films and friends. |
